Conference details

HIAS 2012 will be held from 11-13 April 2012 by the Department of Nuclear Physics at The Australian National University, Canberra.

Interstate visitors should note the late start time (11:00am) on the first day of the symposium (11 April), and the early finish (4:00pm) on the final day (13 April) provides some flexibility for travel arrangements for getting to/from Canberra. Note that the University is approximately 15 minutes by taxi from Canberra airport.

  • Tours of the 14UD accelerator, Rutherford back scattering (RBS) accelerator, Single stage accelerator mass spectrometry (SSAMS) laboratories

Venue

The venue for HIAS 2012 will be Lecture Theatre 1 in the new Sciences Teaching building (Building 136), an approximately 10 minute walk from the Department of Nuclear Physics, Building 57 Garran Road, The Australian National University.

The Sciences Teaching building is a brand new building, located on the top left corner of grid F4 of the University map.

The Nuclear Physics building is located on the left edge of grid C4 of the University map.

Walking and cycle paths provide good access to the city centre, Lake Burley Griffin, the Australian National Botanic Gardens and the National Museum Australia, which are all within 2 kilometers of the department.

Accommodation

The Australian National University has a number of accommodation options available while you visit the department, including on-Campus apartments and residential halls. If you wish to book your own accommodation details can be found on the University Accommodation website.

Alternatively a block booking of accommodation on the ANU campus for attendees has been made for the 11 and 12 April. Costs per night are $90 (single, shared bathroom) and $125 (twin, ensuite) at University House. Students allocated full support will be provided accommodation at these facilities. Accommodation at Liversidge Court Apartments is $194 (2 bedroom: - double + twin) per night. The above costs exclude GST. All accommodation will be allocated in order of registration. Notification of accommodation booking status will be provided with the advice on abstract acceptance (27 February 2012). The conference webpage also gives information on other accommodation options nearby that attendees will be able to book themselves.
